Giant LED screen powers up

Giant LED screen powers up Recently LED screens have been getting bigger and bigger but few can match the size of a new screen erected on Xicui Road in the western part of Beijing.

The screen is a massive 20,000 square feet and is able to display videos the 12 stories high.

Called the Greenpix Zero Energy Media wall, the building-sized LED screen installation is powered entirely by solar energy.

Designer Simone Giostra said: "The media wall will provide the city of Beijing with its first venue dedicated to digital media art, while offering the most radical example of photovoltaic technology applied to an entire building's envelope to date."

The building features a glass wall covered in a photovoltaic laminate that soaks up the sun's rays during the day and uses that energy to project low-resolution LED videos at night.

Luisa Gui the project's New York-based curator said: "The videos are quite abstract, in fast-motion, almost mirroring the high speed of the city."
