Pumping station gets LED treatment
The residents of a German city are able to tell when a nearby water pump is working due to LED lighting.
All the citizens of Cologne need to do in order to check the water levels of the Rhine is to glance at the tower connected to a pumping station.
The tower lights-up in the evening with different colours used to correspond to changes in water levels.
LED lighting has been aimed at the station with white meaning water levels are normal, amber indicates an increase in the level and red is used when the station is pumping excess water.
City officials opted for LED technology for a variety of reasons including the strength of the light emitted and the little effort needed in maintaining the system.
LEDs are also renowned for their long operational life, ensuring that residents of the city can enjoy the light display for years to come.
Citizens of Philadelphia in the US can also enjoy an LED display following the lighting-up of the city's Comcast Centre.
