Universities save money with environmentally friendly LED illumination

Five universities have signed up for a new pilot scheme that will see them install and evaluate the benefits of LED illumination.North Carolina State University (NCSU), Marquette University, University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), University of Arkansas and China's Tianjin Polytechnic University will all examine the financial and environmental incentives for expanding rollout of the lighting system.The scheme will see LED lighting fitted in various areas across the five campuses, partly to improve security.

Hospital hits on a bright idea with LEDs lighting

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has installed LED lighting as part of a drive to reduce costs.The hospital is expected to make energy and maintenance savings of £1,600 a year after withdrawing halogen lights from its East Atrium in favour of LED illumination.PuraLED, a lighting division of Zyphos LED Systems Ltd, provided the new low wattage replacements. A total of 46 floodlights, projectors and spotlights were fitted with a maximum of 54W, which compares to the 150-200W required by the previous halogen fixtures.

Donation helps Mustangs upgrade new scoreboard

A $200,000 donation will enable a minor league baseball team to upgrade plans for a new scoreboard. Billings Mustangs will double the proposed size of the screen at Dehler Park after receiving the money from Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co.The donation, which was expected to be approved last night (April 28th) by Billings City Council, will also see the venue name added to the scoreboard and improve its support structure.
