College farm fits 200 LED lights
A US college has recently fitted 200 LED lights as part of a pilot programme.
The LED lights, supplied by Osram Sylvania, have been installed at Pineland Farm, in Maine.
Colleges and residents in the state are being encouraged by local group Efficiency Maine to convert to more energy-savings methods of lighting.
The group provided financial support for the college so it could install the LED technology which has been fitted into the campus' streetlights.
Approximately £18,900 is expected to be saved each year in energy bills due to the efficiency of the LED lights.
Sharon Reishus, chairman of the Maine Public Utilities Commission, stated that the LED lighting has had a positive impact on the region.
"The result of this partnership is an exciting example of cutting-edge technology that can help create a brighter and more energy efficient future for all of us," she told LED magazine.
Students at Sarah Lawrence College, in the US, have set rules where they are only allowed to use fluorescent lighting when no LED lights are available in order to be more environmentally-friendly.
