LED technology to boost Sharp's sales

LED technology to boost Sharp's sales Sharp has recently forecast that new LED products manufactured by the company are to boost sales of appliances.

New products being introduced by the company include air purifiers and LED lamps.

In total, the company hopes to increase the sales of home appliances by £5.2 million in five years time with LED products bolstering sales.

Mikio Katayama, president of Sharp, stated that LED lighting is expected to bring in £1 billion in sales by 2013.

"LEDs will spread rapidly and cause a lighting revolution. We intend to cultivate this as our third business pillar," said Mr Katayama.

The company recently announced its movement into the LED market which could widen as consumers become more environmentally aware.

Technology used in LED lighting tends to be less power-hungry than conventional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent bulbs.

Until recently the majority of the company's products for its corporate customers have included devices and copy machines.
