Supermarket installs LED lighting
A leading supermarket chain is the first to install LED lights into its freezer areas.
Supplied by Royal Philips Electronics, up to 350 of Sainsbury's stores will be fitted with LED lighting in its freezers.
Philips has remarked that the LED technology is to save the supermarket up to 75 per cent in energy.
In addition, the company report that the innovative lighting is more robust than the fluorescent type normally found in freezers and is likely to last longer.
The quality of light emitted from the LEDs could help the supermarket's sales as consumers may be able to see the packaging of products more clearly.
Lee Cole, from Sainsbury's, stated that the lights were incorporated into freezer systems due to the energy-saving technology and high quality of the technology.
"Sainsbury's is committed to bringing its customers the best in food and health. That also means how they are presented. At the same time we need to respect the environment," he said.
Philips supplies LED lighting to a variety of other industries including hospitality.
