Electronic display screens to appear in Swansea

Electronic display screens to appear in Swansea Several electronic display screens are to be installed around Swansea city centre.

They will broadcast information ranging from weather forecasts and traffic information to appeals for missing children, reports the Swansea Evening Post.

People will be able to download data like maps or discount vouchers too.

The electronic display screens - to be known as StreetBroadcast - are similar to those in use in London, Liverpool and Birmingham.

"These screens are a common sight in large cities across the UK and will help keep shoppers on top of up-to-the-minute information, such as news, traffic and weather," council leader Chris Holley told the newspaper.

"The StreetBroadcast network will add a modern feel to the city centre at a time when so much work to improve its vitality and appeal is ongoing."

Work on the screens has already begun, and the cost of installation and running is being met by the private company installing them, which will make its money from advertising.
