Hospital hits on a bright idea with LEDs lighting
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital has installed LED lighting as part of a drive to reduce costs.
The hospital is expected to make energy and maintenance savings of £1,600 a year after withdrawing halogen lights from its East Atrium in favour of LED illumination.
PuraLED, a lighting division of Zyphos LED Systems Ltd, provided the new low wattage replacements. A total of 46 floodlights, projectors and spotlights were fitted with a maximum of 54W, which compares to the 150-200W required by the previous halogen fixtures.
Steve Whiteley, operations director for Zyphos, claimed "the installation is both very economical in maintenance terms and carries a fast payback in energy saving".
He added that the new lights were specifically designed to provide "the correct level of illumination" for the hospital's interior architecture and would "still be operational in 20 years".
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital was set up in 1994 and the NHS Trust serves over 600,000 in the local catchment area .
