LED lights are powered by a see-saw

LED lights are powered by a see-saw An inventor from the Midlands has managed to power LED lights by harnessing energy from a see-saw.

Daniel Sherid created the Energee-Saw in order to bring LED lighting to developing villages in Africa.

Mr Sherid reveals that he was inspired to design the device following a trip to Mombasa, in Kenya, where he realised that some villagers do not have access to electricity.

His creation moves energy from see-saws to a generator where it is used to power LED lights and other electronic items such as mp3 players and radios.

Mr Sherid stated that the Energee-Saw could have a large impact on those living in remote villages.

"I believe it can make a real difference to schools across the globe currently without power. Our initial focus will be helping to provide low wattage LED lighting," he said.

"The current need for electricity in sub-Saharan Africa and other parts of the developing world is staggering. Without power, development can be extremely difficult."

The Energee-Saw won the Most Innovative Product award at this year's Enterprise Festival.
