LED lights becoming 'more popular' in homes

LED lights becoming 'more popular' in homes Householders are increasingly likely to install LED lights in their homes.

The Calgary Herald reports that LED technology is becoming a more popular option for household lighting.

LED lights have been used mostly in business settings but the paper reports that they are starting to replace traditional lighting sources such as incandescent light bulbs in homes.

Consumers are reported to be more likely to use the more modern technology as it uses less energy and can cut household bills.

In addition, LED lights last longer than halogen bulbs and need less replacing.

Homeowners can often choose the brightness and hue of LED lights which they cannot always do with traditional lighting.

Yong Cai, product manager for Philips Lighting Canada, believes that recent steps in LED technology has added to its appeal.

"Consumers have told us that they've been disappointed with many LED bulbs to date, because of the poor quality," he said.

Last month the European Union called for a ban on household incandescent bulbs from 2010.
