LED lights donated for religious festival
A religious festival held in Chicago was recently celebrated with the help of donated LED lights.
The Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) donated numerous LED lights to the city's Indo-American Center.
LED technology was used for decorations in the Hindu Diwali festival which is also known as the Festival of Lights.
ComEd made the donation in order to help the centre save money on its energy bills.
The LED technology is expected to need 90 per cent less energy than the centre's previous lighting.
In addition, the LED lighting has a 20-year lifespan and will need to be replaced less then halogen bulbs.
Jay Luthra, executive director of the Indo-American Center, stated that the technology will help the centre save money.
"We have been trying to make our facility more energy efficient, and ComEd's donation of LED light strands helps us do just that," he said.
ComEd has been running for approximately 100 years and is one of the largest electricity providers in the US.
