Solar-powered LED lights unveiled
Scientists in Vietnam have unveiled LED lights that run on solar power.
The LED lighting was designed by researchers at the country's Laboratory for Nanotechnology (LNT).
Dang Mau Chien, director of LNT, revealed that scientists had been developing solar-powered technology in order to provide lighting for those not connected to Vietnam's energy grid.
Now residents living in rural areas of the country are to have access to LED lighting.
Mr Chien explained that the LED technology is preferable to other lighting sources as it needs less power to run.
LED bulbs also have a long life and can produce up to 100,000 hours of light, according to the Thanh Nien News.
In addition, light intensity is brighter than that produced by halogen bulbs while the reduction in heat emitted from LED technology ensures energy is not wasted.
A businessman from the Midlands recently created a device which enables LED lights to be powered by energy gleaned from see-saws.
