'Tunnel' of LED lights added to seasonal illuminations
One of the largest Christmas displays in Midwest US is to get a "tunnel" of LED lights.
The display, in Westland, Michigan, measures four miles in length and features a host of seasonal illuminations such as reindeers, snowflakes and sleighs.
This year a tunnel of LED lights worth approximately £25,000 will be added to the illuminations.
LED technology was chosen in order to help the county save money.
Beverly Watts, director of the Wayne County Parks Department, revealed that in the future all lighting in the display will be gradually replaced with LED technology.
Up to 35 separate animations currently make up the Christmas illuminations and as the bulbs run out LEDs are to be fitted instead.
"As we replace them in the future, each time we'll use LED lights - we are trying to go green," she told the Detroit News.
Blackpool illuminations feature six miles of displays which consist of over a million bulbs.
