LED lights create moonlight effect
A recent outdoor art project in New York used LED lights to cast a moonlit effect over running water.
The installation was created by Olafur Eliasson and involved the lighting of four man-made waterfalls.
LED lights were incorporated into the waterfalls which were all located in the New York City's harbour.
Some of the waterfalls reached 120-feet in height with up to 35 gallons of water pouring from them every minute.
White LED lights fixed to the installations gave the appearance that each waterfall was lit-up by the moon.
Michael Mehl, lighting designer from Baum and Bolles, revealed that the use of LED technology had a positive impact on the creation of the waterfalls.
"Working with LEDs offered us very interesting possibilities both technically and aesthetically in realising Eliasson's artistic vision," he said.
Artist, Leo Villareal, is soon to begin constructing his LED light installation in the US's National Gallery of Art which will feature 42,000 of the innovative bulbs.
