Trafalgar Square lit up by LED display

Trafalgar Square lit up by LED display Trafalgar Square in London has been lit up for the last three weeks by an 85 square metre LED display with dual video/TV playback.

It featured daily live coverage of the Olympic Games in Beijing and was used for two different festival performance shows during the three weeks, reports L&Si Online.

The LED display was set up in front of Nelson's Column and faced the National Gallery.

It was built using a 12 by nine panel arrangement in a 16:9 aspect ration, weighing a hefty six tonnes.

The whole display required six two-tonne motors to rig it onto a support structure which had been provided by Star Events.

TV coverage from the events at the Olympics was supplied by the BBC using two Freesat dishes and the corporation's Red Button service.

Many in the capital watched the spectacular closing ceremony as Beijing handed the Olympics to London.
