LED lighting helps make hospital 'safer'
LED technology is helping to modernise operating theatres, according to industry experts.
John Thiel, a gynaecologist from Regina General Hospital, Saskatchewan, has revealed how new surgical suites have been complemented by LED lighting.
State-of-the art equipment has been introduced to operating areas such as cameras and high-definition televisions which offer an increase in clarity during surgical procedures.
In addition, LED lights have been attached to booms which hang from the ceiling and are movable.
Mr Thiel reported that the lighting can help quicken the patients experience and cuts health and safety risks due to the reduction in cords which people can trip on.
"We can just swing the boom out of the way, bring the bed in and transfer the patient," he told the Leader Post
"That makes it much easier on the nursing staff, reduces the time spent transferring patients, and ultimately means more time for surgical procedures."
LED lights have also been introduced to the UK's Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital's operating theatres due to the sharper light they generate.
