LED lights help surgeons
LED lights are more efficient to use during operations than traditional lighting, according to industry experts.
Chris Walters, senior product manager for Surgical and Critical Care Technologies, Steris Corporation, has stated that LED technology does not generate ultra-violet and infrared light.
Light cast by halogen bulbs needs to have these elements filtered out in order for the surgeon to correctly identify colours during an operation.
In addition, during procedures LED lights can be used to deepen colour difference which can be an aid to surgeons.
"You can design it with a broad spectrum to enable you to visualise colours in all those different wavelengths and see the difference between a dark blue or black, or in our case between subtle shades of red," Mr Walters told Dot Med.
Recently the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust revealed that it plans to install LED lighting into its hospitals due to the efficiency of the technology.
