LED usage goes beyond scoreboards

LED usage goes beyond scoreboards The wide-ranging uses of light emitting diodes (LEDs) were further highlighted today as Enfis announced a three-year contract with Chongqing Tianhai Medical Equipment.

Under the deal – worth $2.15 million – Enfis will supply the medical equipment manufacturer with high colour render index LED light engines.

Enfis, which creates high-power LED arrays and smart light engines, won the contract through their recently opened office in Shanghai.

"This significant contract win demonstrates further momentum in applications using Enfis' technology," said Enfis chief executive Shaun Oxenham.

"With momentum building in our markets, we view the future with confidence."

LEDs can be used in a variety of medical applications as well as their more conventional uses as factory displays and sports scoreboards.

When used as operating room lighting they are much more reliable and have far lower radiative heat generation than standard halogen lamps.

More advanced uses include phototherapy, where LED systems can be used to treat dermatological problems like acne and eczema.
