American city debates LED signs
A city in Arkansas in the USA has held a public hearing to create a new ordinance to deal with the number of LED signs being put up.
The Rogers planning commission had the hearing to gather input, with representatives from three sign companies speaking at it, reports the Benton County Daily Record.
Highway commercial zoning areas and open display areas, like car dealerships, are likely to be allowed LED signs, according to the newspaper.
A committee formed to create the new ordinance had suggested that the maximum sign size should be 150 square feet, with only half of that available for electronic display.
However, one of the business leaders disagreed and said that the proposals should go back to subcommittee.
"Signs have changed, and small businesses depend on these signs," said CC Foy of Advanced Sign Group.
"There's this misnomer, this legend, that LED signs are a safety hazard.
"Study after study has concluded otherwise."
