Company plans to 'phase in' LED Christmas lights

Company plans to 'phase in' LED Christmas lights A leading light retailer in the US is hoping to persuade homeowners to use LED lighting in their homes.

Christmas Decor has 375 outlets in 48 US states and is aiming to see more people using LED lights because of their energy efficiency.

Recent figures released from the Department of Energy reveal that if LEDs were used instead of traditional Christmas lights two billion kilowatts of energy would be saved.

Blake Smith, president of the company, aims to see all homes install LED lighting to save money and help the environment.

"Our goal is to phase in LEDs and reach the point where they represent the vast majority of our holiday decorating installations," he said.

"As people face fuel surcharges, higher rates in their electric bills and become more environmentally conscious, LEDs really make good sense."

Figures from the US Consumer Products Safety Commission reveal that up to 8,700 people attend hospital every year after sustaining injuries while putting up Christmas decorations.
