LED lights 'popular' for Christmas trees
Consumers shopping for an artificial Christmas tree could be tempted by those offering LED fibre optic lighting, according to industry experts.
Artificial Christmas Tree, a company specialising in fibre-optic trees, has stated that the energy-saving LED technology installed in its products is likely to draw customers.
The company reports that its fibre-optic LED trees use 90 per cent less energy than those adorned with traditional lights.
In addition, consumers are free to adjust the LED lights' brightness and they are deemed safer because less heat is emitted which reduces the risk of fire breaking out.
Lawrence Horn, an electrical engineer, calculated that 12 traditional bulbs used the same energy as all LED lights on a 4-ft tree.
"This calculates to more than 10 times the energy consumption of your LED trees," he added.
Recently a North Yorkshire home was temporarily decorated with LED lights as part of a campaign to advertise their efficiency.
