Shopping centre to get LED lights

Shopping centre to get LED lights The installation of LED lighting in a Devon shopping complex could be the first step in a major refurbishment plan.

LED lights are currently being installed into the car park of Union Square, Torquay.

The technology is expected to cost up to £85,000 to install but energy bills will see a huge reduction due to the efficiency of LED lighting.

Many shoppers are to benefit from the lighting as visitor numbers have soared by 21 per cent since September.

The lights are reported to be the beginning of a massive redevelopment of the complex which may involve creating new shopping units and weatherproofing external areas.

Phil Chapman, manager of the complex, believes LED lighting will help modernise the shopping centre.

"It should look much better and bring the centre into the 21st century," he told the Herald.

Torbay Council is presently considering installing LED lights into the historic grounds of Cockington Court.
