Cash boost for sports scoreboard

Cash boost for sports scoreboard A Lancashire basketball team is set to invest in a brand new electronic sports scoreboard thanks to a recent injection of cash aimed at encouraging more youngsters to take up the sport.

The Chorley Cougars have been given £296 from the Chorley and District Sports Forum for the sports scoreboard, the Chorley Guardian reports.

The side has also gained a £340 grant from the Lancashire Basketball Association to provide coaching to primary schools in the area

Chorley Cougars coach Amanda Stileman hoped the funds will help to encourage more children to get involved in the game.

"We are up against more traditional sports such as football and rugby and in my experience it is difficult to get young people involved," she told the newspaper.

"We must try to sustain the training sessions and keep them going at schools instead of going for just one or two sessions," she added.

The team will now be contacting local schools to get local pupils involved in a series of coaching sessions.
