LED display leads way to Bird's Nest
Spectators walking to Beijing's Bird's Nest stadium to watch the events are having their way lit by an LED display.
Walkways to the stadium, which hosted the opening ceremony on August 8th and is being used for athletics and football events, are illuminated with colour-changing lights.
The LED display was chosen because it provides excellent performance and is cheaper than conventional lighting.
Another bonus is the programmable features of LEDs, which let designers have a freedom of expression which was not possible before.
And LED lighting was also used to illuminate letters which designate each area of the stadium.
Each letter is over ten feet tall and appear at the entrance to each area.
As well as the flexibility and cost-saving advantages, LEDs were chosen for this purpose due to their versatility.
The Bird's Nest stadium will also host the closing ceremony when the Olympics finish on August 24th.
