Sports scoreboards: Minnesota Twins set for stadium windfall
Minnesota Twins are expecting to rake in between $40 million to $50 million a year when a new stadium featuring a state-of-the-art scoreboard is opened in 2010.
The Major League Baseball side believe the 42,000-seater venue, tentatively titled Twins Ballpark, will generate revenues in excess of $1 billion over the 30-year lease.
The terms of the agreement will see the team receive money from parking, concessions, naming rights and private suites.
The $522 million project also includes the installation of a high definition scoreboard measuring approximately 102 feet long and 57 feet high.
Twins president Dave St. Peter said: "This is the antithesis of the Metrodome.
"We are going from the worst lease situation in Major League Baseball to one of the best."
The Minneapolis franchise, founded in 1901, have won a total of three world series and most recently won their Central Division in 2006.
