Velodrome frontrunner emerges as GB team names on sports scoreboard
Carillion has been tipped as the major contender for the London 2012 Olympic velodrome, as Team GB experienced success on the track this weekend.
According to sources cited by Building.co.uk, the contractor is close to signing a contract with the Olympic Delivery Authority for the 6,000-seater building.
Designed by Hopkins Architects and Expedition Engineering, the velodrome will house indoor cycling events.
And, if this weekend's Track Cycling World Championships results are anything to go by, British athletes may have a good chance of occupying the gold medal winner's position on the sports scoreboards in the new building.
Although 27-year-old reigning champion Victoria Pendleton missed out on gold in the final of the keirin in Manchester, she did set a new British record for the women's sprint of 10.904 seconds.
Bradley Wiggins won Britain's first gold in the 4,000m men's individual pursuit, and Chris Hoy won the men's sprint.
The team took six medals home in total, with Rebecca Romero claiming her second gold medal as the British women's pursuit team flourished.
