Wimbledon serves up new scoreboards
Spectators at this year's Wimbledon Championships will be entertained by new video displays.
In addition to keeping the score, the state-of-the-art screens can show Hawk-eye replays, statistics and video clips when the rain inevitably starts to pour.
Bill Jinks of IBM, which is responsible for supplying and operating the technology, claimed that the new scoreboards can "show a whole range of information" when a court in not being used.
He said: "For instance, before matches we can show player pictures and biographies and if - God forbid - it should rain, we could even show videos to spectators while they wait for the weather to change.
The screens replace the old dot matrix system on both Centre and Number One Courts. Similar displays could be fitted across the venue, with Henman Hill being considered as one possible site.
The 2008 tournament begins on June 23rd and finishes on July 6th.
