Head-turning LED screens cause controversy

Head-turning LED screens cause controversy LED screens erected in Pakistan have triggered controversy after local Traffic Police claimed they could have been better used to display security information.

Police officials claim that they had not been asked for their views on LED advertising screens recently installed along roads in Lahore, the Daily Times reports.

They claim that the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), which installed the LED screens did not inform them of the screens' purpose.

Speaking to the newspaper, traffic warden, Muneer Zia, said: "Entertainment is good, but after the installation of these LED screens, it has become difficult for us to control drivers and pedestrians whose eyes pop out of their heads."

However, PHA marketing officer Sohail Bhatti insisted that the Traffic Police had had their chance to approve the LED screens in a meeting last year.

Representatives from the Traffic Police, Traffic Engineering and Planning Authority, environment and advertising attended the meeting on December 31st.
