Hospital car park gets LED lighting
A Cardiff hospital car park has replaced all of its traditional lighting with LED technology.
Approximately 300 LED lights have been installed at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital's car park.
Paul Lewis, estates manager at the hospital, revealed LED lighting was chosen for a variety of factors such as cost-effectiveness and light quality.
LED lighting has been introduced into the car park's floodlights, pedestrian beacons and light poles.
Staff and visitors to the hospital can now benefit from the brighter lights which aim to improve the security of the area.
Geoff Jones, managing director of LED provider i-Vision, stated that the car park is the first one to run entirely on the innovative technology.
"To my knowledge, this is one of the first external lighting schemes completed in a car park in this country to exclusively utilise LED fixtures," he told LED Magazine.
"It was very important for the whole car park to receive a uniform distribution of light to ensure that patients, visitors and staff feel safe."
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital recently announced it was introducing LED lighting to some areas in order to reduce costs.
