Southend airport expansion plans

Southend airport expansion plans Plans to construct a multi-million pound extension at Southend Airport could open up massive potential for LED display screens if a new investor for the airport is found.

Regional Airports is seeking an investor for the venture which will include a new terminal, railway station, car park and hotel.

It is hoped that the new development will help to make the Essex airport a significant London gateway.

"London Southend has a great future ahead of it," Regional Airport's chief executive, Andrew Walters said.

"We have already invested a great deal in the airport's infrastructure and have secured approval for exciting development plans."

He added: "What is required now is for an owner with the required resources and expertise to realise fully the potential that we know is there."

It is believed that the airport could be a major transport hub for the capital by the time of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
